Care pathway protocols that are reviewed in group sessions as part of our regional action plan meetings are displayed below. These are provided as examples of best practice and ways to encourage change improvements. They are available to download. If you have agreed to carry out an intervention as part of an AAAQIP regional meeting please edit these with local ammendments.
GROUP 1: PRE-OPERATIVE ASSESSMENT
This element of the care pathway focuses on standardising pre-operative risk assessment as well as encouraging the development of a formal Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) structure and process.

GROUP 2: CARE DELIVERY- INTRA-OPERATIVE
This focuses on intra-operative care delivery to ensure the appropriate facilities are available and the right protocols are carried out. This also addresses surgical and anaesthetic factors and team composition and roles.

GROUP 3: CARE DELIVERY- POST-OPERATIVE

GROUP 4: COMMUNICATION WITH PATIENTS
This session highlights the importance of communication with patients and providing the appropriate information for patients to make a fully informed decision. This also considers joint decision making and providing enough time for patients to digest the risks associated with proceeding with intervention.

GROUP 5: MEASUREMENT
Group 5 covers the significant outcome measures captured on the National Vascular Database (NVD) including mortality, length of stay and complications. This also points to other important measures such as measuring adherence to agreed protocols within the care pathway as well as capturing turn down rates. General measures to capture patient experience such as the Picker Inpatient Survey is also available.
